Citrus Soda Interacts With Cyclosporine, Maybe Statins

Medical researchers at Vanderbilt University have discovered that citrus sodas interact with cyclosporine, a drug administered to transplant patients, and possibly statin drugs. Citrus sodas contain a chemical called bergamottin, which interferes with the cytochrome P450 pathway in the liver. That means ingesting bergamottin-containing products with certain medications may modify how they are absorbed by the small intestine. Although current studies suggest that this may include statin drugs, little research has been performed to effectively answer this question. Read more here.
