Thursday July 29, 2004
Simvastatin, also known as Zocor ®, is now being sold over-the-counter (OTC) in pharmacies in Great Britain. Despite protests from many in the medical community, the product was made OTC in order to address the rising rates of heart disease in the nation. Pharmacists will inquire about the intentions of the individual wishing to buy the medication, however, close monitoring and periodic cholesterol and liver enzymes checks with the OTC medication will not be mandatory. The 10 mg pill, marketed by Johnson & Johnson, is under the trade name Zocor Heart-Pro.Read about it here.
