Abbott To Reformulate a Tricor ®

Friday November 5, 2004
Abbott announced today that it has just received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to reformulate Tricor (fenofibrate) to be taken with or without food. Currently, Tricor ® is required to only be taken with food in order for the drug to be properly absorbed into the bloodstream. Their new formulation calls upon the use of nanoparticle technology, which will speed up the absorptive process of the pill once it reaches the gastrointestinal tract. It is felt that this will ensure better compliance and more convenience in patients who have lipid disorders who are also on multiple medications. In a previous study, patients taking Tricor ® without food lost almost 35% of the drug’s beneficial effects. Read more about it here.
