What Is the VAP Cholesterol Test?

There's a relatively newer type of cholesterol test that is gaining popularity in the world of cholesterol testing. It tells you a lot more about your lipids than a conventional cholesterol test -- as well as your risk of cardiovascular disease. It's called the VAP cholesterol test, and it's being used in more individuals who are at risk for cardiovascular disease.

Out of all of the individuals who have had their first heart attack, half of these individuals have relatively normal total cholesterol levels. The VAP cholesterol test expands its view on your lipids -- not only looking at your basic lipid profile, but also examining subtypes of VLDL and HDL, LDL size, and your apolipoproteins. It's covered by most insurance companies and can be performed in your healthcare provider's office.
