Statins work by blocking HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that is the plays an important role in making cholesterol in the liver. By doing this, statins work by decreasing LDL (the bad cholesterol) and triglyceride levels and increasing HDL (the good cholesterol) levels in the body.
