Cholesterol Embolism

Definition: A cholesterol embolism refers to cholesterol particles that break off from an unstable segment of atherosclerotic plaque within a vessel and travel to another area of the body, where it limits or obstructs blood flow to affected areas.

Cholesterol emboli could cause a variety of health problems, ranging from inadequate blood supply to vital organs or other areas of the body to death.
