Hyperlipidemia --High Blood Lipid Level Diseases

Hyperlipidemia, a term referring to high blood fat levels, is a classification of conditions where an abnormally high level of plasma fats (such as cholesterol and triglycerides) exists in the blood. Find out here what types of hyperlipidemia and what causes them.

An Explanation of the Major Lipoprotein Classes
This website gives you a broader picture of the different classes of lipoproteins that exist and what their functions are.
Familial lipoprotein Lipase Deficiency
Type I hyperlipoproteinemia, also known as familial lipoprotein lipase deficiency, is a rare inherited deficiency in lipoprotein lipase activity or the lipase-activating protein apolipoprotein C-II. This prevents effective removal of triglycerides.
Type IV Hyperlipoproteinemia
A common disorder that is characterized by elevated triglyceride levels and very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), thus increasing the patient's risk of atherosclerosis.
Familial Dysbetalipoproteinemia
Type III hyperlipoproteinemia, also known familial dysbetalipoproteinemia, is due to abnormal apolipoprotein E (apo E) and defective conversion and removal of VLDL from the blood.
Familial Lecithin Cholesterol Acyltransferase Deficiency
Familial lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency is a rare disorder that is characterized by lack of the enzyme that normally esterifies cholesterol in the plasma.
