Hypercholesterolemia

Definition: Hypercholesterolemia is a general, scientific term referring to the presence of a high amount of cholesterol in the blood. Also known as high cholesterol, hypercholesterolemia may promote plaque formation and heart disease if present for a prolonged period of time.

There are many causes of hypercholesterolemia, including diet, genetic factors, and certain health conditions.
