Side effects are minimal and may:
Increase the effect of blood thinners (like warfarin) or other cholesterol lowering medications.
Cause upset stomach or diarrhea. These effects generally disappear after a week or so, but if they are too bothersome or last for a long time, consult with your doctor.
Cause anemia and lower white blood cell count.
Cause bile to become more concentrated, thus increasing the likelihood of gallstone formation.
Cause temporary dizziness.
Cause temporary blurred vision.
Cause muscle pains. This is extremely rare and it is referred to as rhabdomyolysis. If you experience this, you need to consult your doctor immediately because this could lead to potentially life-threatening conditions such as acute renal failure.
