Definition: Apolipoprotein C-III is a major protein that is primarily found on very low density lipoproteins, or VLDL cholesterol. Apo C-III is thought to delay the breakdown of particles in the blood that are rich in triglycerides.

Having high levels of apo C-III has been linked to high triglyceride levels and may raise your risk of heart disease. High levels have also been found in individuals with metabolic syndrome.
