Omega-6 fatty acids are a type of unsaturated fat that are classified as an essential fatty acid, meaning that they must be obtained through your diet because they cannot be made by the body. Unsaturated fatty acids in this group include linoleic acid (LA) and arachadonic acid (AA).
Some studies suggest that partially replacing refined carbohydrates (such as white bread, sugars) or saturated fat with omega-6 fatty acids in the diet could slightly lower LDL and lower coronary heart disease risk. Omega-6 fatty acids can be obtained from a variety of whole grains, seeds, nuts, and vegetable oils.
